Hitrya is an elegant and modern villa situated on the north coast of Sicily, near the village of Trabia, half way between Palermo and Cefalù. The house is very large and spacious, both inside and outside. In the almost 2,000 square metres garden lies an inviting eight-shaped swimming pool. The garden abounds with trees and other plants that make it amazingly diverse. The fact that it rests on a gentle slope creates a few secluded niches from where to enjoy the fresh breeze of both its vegetation and the sea. At night, the atmosphere is rather evocative thanks to the garden’s lighting, which has ben carefully designed. From the garden, but above all from the terrace on the first floor, one can enjoy breathtaking views over the sea and the gulf of Mongerbino. The villa lies within a summer residential area which is surprisingly quiet and away from the tourist flow in the nearby coast.

Outside in the large garden area of almost 2,000 square metres are a swimming pool and various other relaxation areas, as well as a big barbecue and a wood-fired brick oven. The main entrance to the house provides access to the spacious living room on the ground floor, which is divided into two main areas: the relaxation area with wide and comfortable sofas, a TV and an American style corner bar, and the dining area with a handy table accommodating up to 10 people. Next to the dining hall is a multicoloured, modern and very well equipped built-in kitchen. On the other side at the back of the house are two double bedrooms and a quadruple bedroom with bunk beds, as well as a bathroom with shower. A pretty and modern steel staircase provides access to the first floor where there is a living room with one sofa and two armchairs and an exercise bike standing in front of a beautiful glass window from which one can enjoy wonderful views over the garden and the sea. From this area one can access the two double bedrooms and the twin room with children furniture. On the same floor is a bathroom with shower. From the first floor a large terrace is accessible that offers splendid views over the sea and the Aeolian archipelago. The third bathroom in the house is to be found in the store room on the ground floor opposite the swimming pool. This is very frequently used by house guests who wish to take a shower before or after using the pool.

This villa is superbly located, roughly half way between Sicily’s capital, Palermo, and the tourist location of Cefalù. In this stretch of coast are several lidos (both sand and rocky beaches) where to go swimming, even if in the summer these are crowded with people from Palermo who have their summer residences here. You can reach the motorway that goes east towards Palermo (about 15 minutes) and the tiny village of Monreale (its Duomo is not to be missed!) and west towards Messina and Catania. Going towards Messina one can easily reach Cefalù, Gratteri, Castelbuono, Pollina and the town of ceramics, Santo Stefano di Camastra. Going towards Catania, Polizzi Generosa and Petralia within the Madonie Nature Park are at convenient distance. Further away, about an hour from Trabia, you can reach Piazza Armerina to pay a visit to the Roman Villa del Casale, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Near the Roman Villa are also the archaeological areas of Himera and Solunto. We recommend a visit to the ancient villas in Bagheria, which are amongst the most sumptuous in the island. The villages near Trabia and Altavilla Milicia are not of great interest, but they are rather handy as you can find basic food supplies here.
